MATERIALS NEEDED

 

All  students will need the following:       

       An instrument in good playing condition

       Music stand

       Name label on instrument case

       Pencil to be stored in instrument case

       Folder for book/sheet music/practice cards

       **Nothing is to  be placed on top of instrument in it’s case, even papers!!  Please use the accessory compartments.  If it doesn’t fit, it doesn’t go in!!

 

All Woodwind and Brass students will need the following:

       Essential Elements, Book 1 w/CD/DVD  for the appropriate instrument 

 

All Woodwind reed students  (oboe/clarinet/saxophone) will need:

       A minimum of two reeds in good playing condition  (Mitchell Lurie strength 2 ½  or Van Doren strength 2 for clarinets and saxophone)

       Reed guard that will accept two or more reeds

       Cork grease

       Cleaning swab appropriate to the instrument

All Brass students (Trumpet/Trombone/Baritone) will need:

       Valve oil appropriate for the instrument (except trombone-slide grease or oil)

       Water rag (wash cloth)

       Tuning slide grease

 

All Percussion students will need the following:

       Building Percussion Technique by Sandy Feldstein*

       Percussion kit (including orchestra bells and practice pad)

       Bell mallets and Vic Firth SD1 snare drum sticks                       

       *All percussionists will be learning bells in combination with rhythm instruments

 

 

CONCERT ATTIRE

 

All Band and orchestra students will wear the following outfit for all performances unless otherwise specified:

 

       Black or dark pants or skirt

       Solid white top

       Dark socks/hose

       Dark shoes
